Heat of adsorption within the activated carbon bed has a negative effect on the GWC. The heat build within the carbon bed increases as the mass of fuel vapors sent to the canister in a given time increase. This has a significant impact on canisters designed to meet the ORVR regulation. Fig. 15 shows the GWC as a function of loading rate. The data shows a 35% reduction in GWC when going from a loading rate of 1 g/min to the ORVR rate of 50 g/min.
